Funding a portable ultrasound to improve patient care

The funds raised to support the hospital community are used in all sorts of ways and we are hugely grateful for all donations.

We are excited to announce the purchase of a new specialist device that will treat patients with spasticity.

Spasticity occurs in about one third of the post stroke population and can cause issues such as pain, soft tissue shortening, contracture, skin lesions, increase in carer burden and limiting of rehab potential. It can be treated with botulinum toxin as well as other activities. The new machine will enable precision injections of botulinum toxin into specific muscles to relieve the effects of spasticity.

Every product or service that we fund is usually identified by members of local NHS staff. They complete a standard form, describing the item and the benefits it will bring. The trustees invite the applicants to discuss their request with us, after which a decision is made regarding any contribution we might award. The process is clear, rigorous and equitable.

The trustees are delighted to make the experience of the hospital community better through our efforts, all of which is voluntary.

Thank you for your interest.
