2021 proved to be another difficult year for so many of us – but we still tried our level best to connect with one another and the wider world. In the same vein, the League of Friends of South Petherton Hospital maintained its commitment to supporting the hospital; as we have done for the past 70 years.
Our team of trustees continued to meet physically and virtually, ensuring that our funds were used to enhance the experience of the hospital’s community. Across the year, we gained new members to the team and bade farewell to others whom have served the LoF wonderfully.
One of the major investments made in 2021 was ‘Sharon’s Path’, which was conceived by the hospital staff in honour of their nursing colleague, Sharon Osmond, who passed away. The new high specification path runs at the rear of the hospital and is designed to be used by people with a range of mobility requirements. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, e.g. patients use it happily as part of their exercise routine to aid recovery or as a place to go with visitors outside of the building. Alongside the path, we funded the repair and reinstatement of beautiful decorative stained glass and iron railings, and the planting of a cherry tree. The commissioning and management of the whole project was conducted deftly by our Chair, Paull Robathan.
We are always grateful to those who choose to support the work of the League of Friends through donating their time and funds to our efforts. In 2021 we were elated to receive a hugely welcome £2,395 contribution from the Coop Community Fund. This is special as it demonstrates how highly the LoF and the hospital are valued by the local community. As always, we will use the money wisely.
From the whole team, we wish you and your loved ones a Happy New Year!
