The sun shone on South Petherton Community Hospital’s annual spectacular – its Harvest Fete and Craft Fair. Smiles were in abundance throughout the afternoon, as friends were reunited in support of the community’s treasured NHS hospital.
The NHS National Institute for Health Research has produced this review, (and lots of other useful links) which looks at the configuration of stroke services, identifying stroke and acute management, recovery and rehabilitation, and life after stroke.

The full review and a two sided summary are also available.
We recently received this lovely message in appreciation of the Simple Step up that we funded and was featured in our last article:
Dear South Petherton League of Friends,
I am writing to convey our gratitude for the gift of the Simple Up. I cannot express how fantastic this device is, and it has already revolutionised our working practice.
I am confident that this essential piece of kit will be of immense value to our radiography staff and their patients. Indeed as soon as it was delivered I used it for a patient, who rather enjoyed the experience!
With the NHS in such difficult financial circumstances, your generous donation is made even more significant, the simple up will enable us to carry out more x-ray examinations then before, I no longer have to turn patients away who would have been unsafe on the previous step ladder.
It really is an excellent addition to our lovely X-Ray room, and again on behalf of my colleagues, I would like to thank you so very much,
Kind regards,
Abi Irish,
Senior Radiographer
Thank you Abi for confirming the value of this equipment, and thank you to the members of the League whose donations make such gifts possible!
The League’s Chair, Paull Robathan, recently penned a fascinating article about the League for local publication TA13. If you don’t receive TA13, you can read the article via this link.
Paull Robathan attended this meeting at the end of June.
Amongst other issues, Paull asked about the promised consultation on Somerset’s STP, and the future of stroke care at the hospital. No clear answers were forthcoming, and we await news on both counts. Follow this link to read the CCG’s presentation.

The Simple Up step installed and immediately in use!
How do you take a good x-ray of a patient with balance or mobility issues when they need support standing up, you have to operate the x-ray machine and the step they are standing on is small and unstable? The League of Friends’ latest purchase is the solution! Continue reading
