The League has organised a public meeting on 11 January 2017 at 7pm – at the Methodist Church Hall in South Petherton – for members of the local community to find out more about NHS England’s ‘Sustainability and Transformation Plans’ (STPs). Somerset’s STP intends that our shared experience of the health and social care system in three years will be radically different from today. In order to support our community to engage confidently with any public consultations, this event aims to share information about the STP.

Susan Hartnell-Beavis has written a booklet that offers helpful and practical insights for those caring for loved ones in Somerset. It has proven so popular with Carers that the League of Friends of South Petherton Hospital were delighted to fund the re-printing of the booklet when the first edition ran out. Continue reading

The document contains plans that are intended to affect significantly the provision of NHS and social care services for the people of Somerset. In order to ensure that our community receives the best care possible in future, it seems vital that Somerset residents spend time investigating and questioning the STP and take part in the various consultations that are planned across the county. On 18th October, several League of Friends groups from across South Somerset’s community hospitals attended an afternoon forum with Dr Nick Broughton, Chief Executive of Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

On Saturday 24 September, the amazing ‘See Bike See Life’ team achieved their goal of fundraising for three organisations that have been instrumental in the ongoing recovery of Ashton, a local Somerset teenager, after he suffered a severe motorbike accident near Yeovilton early in 2016.
