On Saturday 24 September, the amazing ‘See Bike See Life’ team achieved their goal of fundraising for three organisations that have been instrumental in the ongoing recovery of Ashton, a local Somerset teenager, after he suffered a severe motorbike accident near Yeovilton early in 2016. ‘See Bike See Life’ team: Ashley, Keef, Martin, Grant, Mark, Jim, Brian, Al, Reece, Katherine, Charlie, Ashley and Lee.
The League of Friends is benefitting from a fantastic charity fundraising event, ‘See Bike See Life’. On 23-24 September 2016 a dedicated team will carry a mangled motorbike for 49 miles – from Yeovilton in Somerset to Southmead in Bristol – to highlight road safety issues as well as fundraise for those organisations who helped 18-year-old Ashley to recover from his life-threatening motorcycle accident. New physical model of a human spine
The League of Friends was approached by the physiotherapy team at South Petherton Community Hospital to fund the purchase of a new life-size physical model of a human spine. We were happy to do so as the model is an effective tool for helping patients understand their back-related conditions.

‘See Bike, See Life!’ Charity Challenge

Lee Riva, a quarry supervisor from Ilchester, and his team of twelve friends are planning an extraordinary challenge called ‘See Bike, See Life!’ to raise funds for the League of Friends of South Petherton Hospital, Southmead Hospital and the brain injury charity, Headways. On 23-24 September 2016 Lee and the team will carry a motorbike from Yeovilton in Somerset to Southmead in Bristol in order to highlight road safety issues as well as fundraise for those organisations who helped his stepson to recover from a serious motorcycle accident. Expressive Movement Therapy
The hospital offers a range of treatments to support patients undergoing stroke rehabilitation. Currently, an exciting and innovative therapy is underway on the Mary Robertson Ward, led by dance movement psychotherapist Vanessa Martin.

The League of Friends (LoF) is committed to supporting education in all matters related to the hospital, and to promoting research and disseminating the results. Therefore, when the LoF was asked by consultant Nurse, Ian Evans (above left), if it was interested in funding a research practitioner to participate in a variety of research studies at South Petherton Hospital, the answer was a resounding “yes”. For International Clinical Trials Day on 20 May 2016, the hospital opened its doors to show the public the research studies it’s involved in, and to explain why. Continue reading
